Why I'm No Longer Talking to White People About Race

Eddo-Lodge is an award-winning author, journalist, and podcaster whose work focuses primarily on feminism and structural racism. She was born in London to a Nigerian mother in 1989 and earned a degree in English literature from the University of Central Lancashire in 2011. While at university, Eddo-Lodge served as president of the student union until 2012. From 2012 to 2013, she was an elected member of the executive council of the National Union of Students. Her studies, alongside her extracurricular activities, paved the way for her career as a writer and activist.

Eddo-Lodge has published articles in top-tier newspapers in Britain and abroad, including The Guardian, The Daily Telegraph, The Independent, and The New York Times. In 2013, she appeared on the BBC 4 radio show Woman’s Hour, where another guest implied that Eddo-Lodge participated in the online harassment of white feminists. An online debate ensued, prompting a public response from Eddo-Lodge. Despite clarifying her position, and an apology from the panelist who sparked the debate, a white Conservative MP called out Eddo-Lodge for bullying. Incidents such as this one led Eddo-Lodge to pen a blog in 2014, which she titled Why I’m No Longer Talking to White People About Race.
