The Unlikely Hero of Room 13B

Adam usually gets to school early so he has time to perform his cleansing ritual before entering the biology lab, but today he didn’t have enough time, and so he’s not already inside when other people start showing up. He gives up because he’s too consumed with fear that he will lose Robyn because she is getting better while he is getting worse. He goes to the library, where Sister Mary-Margaret and his dad eventually find him. His dad tells him they have to go because Sweetie broke his arm on the monkey bars and needs his big brother Adam. He asks if he should know why Adam wasn’t in class, and Adam says no.

They get to the hospital, and Sweetie is excited to see Adam. He’s nervous to get a CAT scan and a cast, but Adam promises to stay with him through all of it. Brenda starts to thank Adam, but she is cut off when Carmella tells her to keep her claws off her son. Carmella tells Adam that they’re leaving and walks out. Adam says he’ll be right back and goes to catch up with his mom. He tells her that he will be home after all the tests, but he has to stay for Sweetie.
